Mass Media? We don’t need no stinkin’ Mass Media! (Pt 1 of 2)

newspaper

THIS IS PART  ONE OF A  TWO-PART SERIES ON TRADITIONAL MEDIA

Here are three reasons why the Constitution Party should ignore traditional media outlets (TV, Radio, and Newsprint) and use the new technologies of Social Media to promote our message.

Reason 1 – Traditional Media are Propaganda Tools, Not Unbiased Information Sources

Most people don’t know this, but in the 1930s, the Nazis were the darlings of socialism. All the socialists in America (who were in power under FDR at the time) were enamored with how fast Hitler came to power and how he was changing Germany. They also LOVED Joseph Goebbels and how he effectively used radio and newspapers to shape public opinion. In fact, they liked it so well that they adopted it in the United States and ensured that their people were in charge of the newspapers, the radio stations, and as journalism professors in the Universities. When television came along, it was easy to move all the radio staff over to the new medium.

Traditional media has all the characteristic that socialists love – control by the very few and power to influence the very many. Decisions at every level are controlled and manipulated by a small group of people who determine what is “news”.  The change that occurred in the 30s (and was manifested in the 60s and 70s), was that they changed from factual reporting organizations to propaganda organizations. They have an agenda and a mandate to move society in the direction they think is best. Therefore, they control the information to ensure that it fits with their agenda. In saying that, I am not proposing any vast conspiracy. They are just all like-minded in what they want and feel that they know “what is right.” As such, they block or ignore what does not fit into their paradigm of what the people should be hearing/seeing.

Is there any doubt that 99% of the media outlets have an agenda that is pushing society towards a strong socialist government? Do you honestly think that they are not aware of what they are doing and making conscious decisions about who, what, and how to report news that fits into their agenda? Does anything that the Constitution Party stands for fit into that agenda? So, how do you think they feel about us when we ask for a Press Release or make a public announcement?

Reason 2 – Nobody Trusts Them Anyway

More than 94% of the population does not trust traditional media. Their biases have reached a level that cannot be denied and people are rejecting their reports as being truthful. Every year sees newspaper subscriptions shrinking and radio/television listeners/viewers going down. Most marketing experts are predicting the total destruction of the newspaper in less than five years. Television and Radio via the airwaves will be gone in 10 years. Part of it is emerging technologies (streaming, faster internet speeds, etc.), but a lot of it has to do with the people moving to non-traditional news sources. They are looking for the truth and not finding it with traditional media.

Reason 3 – Social Media is More Effective, Trusted More, and is FREE

When I say FREE, it has a double meaning. It is free in that we can effectively use it without spending any money to do so (you don’t necessarily have to advertise. Just put out a good product and let the power of sharing do the rest). Social media is also free in that it is totally organic and grassroots in its design. As of today, there is no central control over the medium. While the government (and traditional media) are trying very hard to get control, it is still the Wild West of communication and everybody has the ability to stake their claim and be heard.

For me, Social Media is the Gutenberg Printing Press of our generation. The power of the Gutenberg Press was that it took the power of information from the few (government and church) and put it in control of the masses. Once that happened, the Renaissance was started and great changes in society began to take place. Social Media is the ability and power to have control over your message. You don’t have to ask for anyone’s permission to publish it. The ability to disseminate that information is 100% determined by how effectively you promote your information. All that is required is to have a message that is worth “sharing” and millions will see your message within days.

Traditional Media is becoming more and more irrelevant each day. The power that they wield is steadily declining and the connection that they have with the population is disappearing.

The vast majority of those that are employed in Traditional Media are those that have strongly held views and ideologies that are the exact opposite of ours. When we implore them to publish our message, we are acknowledging and giving them a power that they don’t actually possess anymore. We need to simply acknowledge to ourselves that we don’t need them, don’t want them, and don’t want to promote them.

It is time to stop kissing the ring and to start kicking the butt.
